Writing for the sake of writing can be cathartic. Writing with a purpose can, too. I feel called to write, and distracted from reading. I’ve recently gotten captured by The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak. The past several months have brought me many serendipitous moments surrounding the life and poetry of Rumi, and this book sings about it. My heart sings. Find out if others have had the same experience. Would they be interested? Are you?
This photo reminds me of a sunset I’m working on embroidering. Getting art tips on how to angle and space lines towards the horizon. Letting go of perfection a little more, but also refining my technique.
Connecting over a shared interest in content: poetry, knitting, children, healthcare, a particular book or song, an instrument, the universe, time, a bit of nature, a bunch of it… Diving gleefully into a pool of shared meaning, skipping over the introductions and getting into the succulence of just knowing. Understanding. I put the cart before the horse. Let’s already know each other, instead of building a friendship. Dodging the awkward quirks that we each can’t forgive ourselves for committing in private or public.
Being with a friend who so smoothly and quickly releases the reigns of etiquette. Friends who come naturally. That’s the stuff of earth. Some good stew. A juicy compost. Chili done right. The last stroke on an indefinite work in progress. As you are. Content.
Un-depressioning enough to take action. Rejoining humanity, coming out of a storm I didn’t know I was weathering. Beginning to take action.
Proposing an expansion of the community garden program. I found my words, and used them. And got a return call.
Conversations with friends and neighbors. Re-emerging.
Picking up an instrument and letting it sing.
Maintaining attention on one item at a time. Noticing the mind wandering. Staying on task.
Using words.
At a loss for words, turning to song. Songs don’t cut it, numb it.
And then, remember to create.
(Sometimes, music just doesn’t cut it. There’s an unsung song in your heart.)
