I do so love the word serendipity. Serendipity emphasizes the magic of small moments, honoring the paths that cross and converge for this moment to unfold before us. I almost chose it as my Word of the Year (as I was challenged to do in this Restorative Faith post). [Quick summary: Alex Lang describes a New Year practice of a friend. They decide on a word for the year and use it as a tool, an “aspirational theme”, a meditation, a mantra for the year ahead. Give it a read then come back].
The idea resonated with me. I love words! Picking just one felt like an appropriate challenge and I spent some time deciding (also trying not to overthink it in the process). I considered “Serendipity” — but it felt like too much pressure for the year. Sure there are plenty of small moments of happenstance that feel directed by an invisible force, but do I want to spend my energy finding serendipity? Creating it? Nah — I’ll let serendipity continue to be just that.

The word I chose for 2023 is Enough. Enough.
I’m happy with my choice.
It’ll do.
It’s enough.
May I notice when I’ve had it. May I be pleased when I’ve got it. May I remember it when I maintain healthy boundaries. May we all find contentment in it.
In short, thank you for letting me be enough.
Love,
Jessie
PS: I tried recording a little diddy through my laptop microphone, but technology is so smart it’s dumb. The microphone/computer keeps “noise reducing” anything that’s not human voices (a guitar, for example), resulting in this fun little number ending with a request for pants :) Conditions need not be perfect to create. All it takes is wanting to make something, then trying. And trying again. Enjoy!
