Relief

Hello friend,

I’m closing out this year with a short reflection (and a little music). I hope this post finds you well. I wonder what this has been like for you. Sporadic posts with pictures, words, and rambling audio filling your inbox throughout the year. I hope you’ve spent yourself well, and I thank you for spending any of yourself with me. I’ve said it before, and I still can’t seem to put it into words. When I couldn’t sleep last night, the feeling of friendship became a poem. And the poem became a bit of a song. The words are below, and the very rough recording is included for my unexpectedly supportive paid subscribers. Take good care, my friends, I look forward to the community we cultivate in the new year.

Love,

Jessie

Falling Stars & Cloudy Skies

I fell asleep in ‘22
my dreams, they weren’t sweet
loneliness steeped in despair
a hopeless place to meet

if you were there, I thank you, friend
for sticking by my side
it couldn't have been easy
being taken for a Darkness Ride

I've met so many along the way
before, during, since, and after
it's such a gift to think of you all
in this garden full of laughter

I wonder how, and care not why,
life's turned out this way
that right on time my heart is filled
with humans with whom to play

like my children, each friend's unique
you each bring gifts to share
and now, my friend, a gift for you,
My Heart --- completely bare

I love you more than I can say
my friendship knows no end
I wish I had time to describe to you
what it means to be my friend

we don't have all day, there's chorin' to do!
so I wrote you this little song
be patient, please, 'cause I'm scared to sing
and play a note that's wrong

Chorus:
you fill my heart with joy
you see me through my fautls
it can't be easy (or maybe it is)
     I hope it never halts
I hope to bring you joy
I see you with no faults
it's easy my friend, to call you that
     my love will never halt

this is what friendship is
humans being at play
staying in touch and keeping up
and missing the other each day

I may be gone for a minute
you might ride on a while
though our paths may part, we'll all cycle through
could be ages, or even a mile

not time, space, distance, or death
ever keeps us apart
cuz you already know what I'm gonna say
I carry you in my heart

Chorus:
you fill my heart with light
you see me through the tears
it might be easy (with you it is)
I hope this goes on for years
I hope to bring you light
I see you, bring your tears
it's easy to call you my friend
my love, it knows no fear

how it carries on is a ripple
from us to them it unfurls
the Wave of Friendship grows
it's a big ol' goofy world

it's inside jokes unbounded
including them with us
eventually, friend, you'll see
there's room for All on the Friendship Bus

our capacity to love grows together
in a community of friends
compassion opens hearts and minds
in a circle that has no end

from scouts, to sports, to churches
between neighbors and strangers alike
it's never been easier, or harder before,
to turn "Nothing" into "Like"

I'll wrap this up (how'd it get so long?!)
no wonder the industry's screwed ;)
it's all in fun, to tell you sun,
my life's better thanks to you

as we close the day, month, season, year
the sun will set, then rise
and wherever we are, we'll always look up
for falling stars through cloudy skies

it grows where we water
it grows in our light
it grows where we nurture and tend
to Cultivate Community right

A foundation of you, my friend,
a song from now until then
star stuff and all that jazz
may it last, may it last

folks come and gone
like a needle and a thread
--- nobody likes the D word, so I'll say this instead ---
may it last
may it last, and last
may it last, may it last
may it last

Happy new year <3
Love,
Jessie
