The Next Write Thing

Who's to say?

I tested out a new video feature, so thanks for your patience if you give it a watch. I’ve included some written words below, you know, a mixed media of sorts. This is me trying not to apologize for playing.

I continually relearn how to slow down, as the universe reminds me of the things I haven’t taken the time to notice.

How tall my kids are getting.

Waves of sound on a still Sunday morning.

Senses returning to start a new day.

As I let myself get caught up in my worries about the world – what I am building or creating for the next generation, as I do my best not to destroy in my wake. What’s the right thing, in each moment? Even when I think I’m doing it, am I?

It’s exhausting overthinking.

But.

Worry can become action.

In the noise and the hurry, it’s difficult to see what action to take next. And when forced into a pause, prioritizing during reemergence is a challenge, too.

Acorns must go through a wintering in order to grow into an oak. Winterings appear to be nonproductive. Sometimes they look like nothing is happening for a long while. And as the winter thaws, the next challenge is figuring out the next move. Choice. Action. Lay roots, grow branches?

And, in the words of Frozen 2 – “do the next right thing”.

This is my next write thing.

Love,

Jessie

P.S.

In my recording, I mentioned two books (one I just finished and the other I’m taking in small audio chunks). Give them a read or a listen, or if you have, let’s discuss sometime :) I dabble in several books at once, like a bee visiting flowers.

  • The Forty Rules of Love — Elif Shafak

  • The Overstory — Richard Powers (audiobook in progress)

Use the comments to share your thoughts, otherwise this is just me talking to myself ;)
