Hi there!
I’m Jessie — a nurse by trade, and a wearer of many hats. In today’s audio I share a bit about my professional background, and a reintroduction to this season of A Bedside Campfire. I share the transition from being just a resident in my community into the activated, engaged citizen you see before you. There’s a bit about my sidestep into fitness instruction, as well as the concerning gaps in care that I’ve stumbled over, into, or helped someone I love recover from.
There’s a lot going on right now, folks.
New Season — Developing Story
Moving away from the “blame game” has taken effort. And realizations — the discovery of this unfolding story — this recurring disappointment — during and since the pandemic — that Healthcare wasn’t made for you and me. It needs a revamp, an overhaul, or retirement (the outcome is still TBD).
I’ve spent time recalibrating with books and conversations with humans about where we go from here.
After years of feeling “someone should do something” — I realized that… I’m somebody.
When I look at the direction we’re heading (as a society… as a species), and wonder about the future as I’d like to see it… I saw/see opportunities for improvement. I found an opportunity to get upstream.
A way to help people stay healthy, and find joy in moving their bodies.
So a few years ago, I began taking classes to become a fitness instructor. I’ll be certified later this summer and am excited for where this wellbeing journey will take me and my future clients.
Looking forward to getting upstream and staying there a while.
Downstream, they’re drowning. We’re drowning. Too many people relying on formal American healthcare services, “reimbursable by insurance” medications, services, treatments, evaluations. Countless many falling head over heels through the gaps in affordable, high-quality, compassionate care.
Let’s get upstream — by strengthening our muscles, stretching our ligaments, getting our heart pumping, and feeling the aliveness of this magnificent human machine we wear around all day.
Upstream, people are moving and savoring this beautiful, unpromised gift of a life.
Downstream, there’s young people dealt an unfair hand — surrounded by older people drowning in regret.
Gaze through the telescope of vicarious experience.
Ponder “what happens if…”, instead of finding out the hard way.
Whether we’ve done it all wrong, or we’re doing alright — we don’t get to know how it’ll all turn out.
We’re guided by North Stars, carrying their stories and lessons, mining for pearls of wisdom and diamonds of opportunity. Releasing the brakes — wiping the gears — and truly beginning to progress on a collective path forward. Off into the wilderness, the bramble, the unknown.
The quiet, mighty mass of humans waiting to activate.
Inner voice asking, “what am I supposed to do next?” — realizing — we already know.
Let’s rewrite the story as it unfolds, from the middle.
Thanks for taking the time to be here today. Thank you for taking this breath — and letting it out — and for finding a moment to stretch (or be still) while you just noodle for a moment by the fire.
Take good care!
Love,
Jessie
